Because my dancing teacher is still on vacation and will be back tomorrow, I start my day with researching the origin of jazz dance.
Jazz dance came from African dance and was brought to America by African slaves. It was finally formed into Jazz Dance in America. Different from classical ballet, jazz dance requires dancers to perform it in a lively way. In 20th century, Michael Jackson is the representative of jazz dancers.
Jazz dance can be divided into four types: tap dance, theatrical jazz dance, modern jazz dance, and street jazz dance. Tap dance can be regarded as the beginning of jazz dance. It occurred in the mid 1800s, and it was performed with jazz music. Theatrical jazz dance is mainly performed on Broadway stage. Modern jazz dance involves ballet. Street jazz dance tends to be more hip pop.
Look forward to formally starting my dance learning!
